On Friday November 3rd, 2023 Green Growth Suriname, under its Forest93 brand, organised a seminar as side-event to the United Business Fair in Suriname. The seminar was themed “Carbon Credits: de business case” and was aimed at business people in Suriname.
Two speakers were invited:
Mrs. Gwendolyn Smith, chair of Green Growth Suriname and a UN Roster of Expert on Climate Change and REDD+, gave an introduction on carbon credits: what are they? How does this market work? What are preconditions for a successfull carbon credit system? What regulations or preparations should be in place?
Mr. Vasco van Roosmalen, CEO of ReSeed introduced the ReSeed model. He gave insights about how small farm holders could be eligible for carbon credits because they are among “the largest carbon asset managers in the world”.
65 people participated including representatives of the business society, accountants, indigenous organizations, conservation organizations, academia and agricultural entrepreneurs.
